If you have ever visited Michelangelo’s statue of David in Florence you may also have noticed blocks of partially carved marble. 


Sculptors often talk of ‘freeing the image from the marble’.  Michelangelo was searching in these blocks for David, discarding them until he found that unique,

iconic image that still exists today.
